Our very own President, Adam Casgar, recently joined Alison Shores on Episode 110 of the Get ‘N’ Your Business Podcast – the show from the Camden County Chamber of Commerce.

Your Password Might Only Buy You 20 Seconds
A big chunk of the conversation focused on how quickly things can go wrong. Adam described what happens when an employee clicks a phishing link and enters their credentials on a fake login page. He also highlighted why criminals often try to use those details almost immediately, sometimes within 20 seconds. It’s a good reminder that the gap between a mistake and a breach is a lot smaller than most people assume.
He also explained why antivirus alone isn’t a strategy anymore. Coastal builds layered security instead: a zero-trust approach that assumes no device or user is automatically safe, so one mistake doesn’t become one breach.
The human side came up too. Adam made the case for ongoing employee training and regular phishing tests, not as a one-off exercise but as something businesses keep doing, because the tactics keep changing.
Another simple habit that can prevent an expensive mistake: always verify payment changes. If a vendor or supplier suddenly emails asking you to send money to a different account, don’t just reply and confirm. Pick up the phone and check it’s really them, using a number you already know and trust. It’s a simple habit that stops a very common and very expensive scam.
Great Tools with One Catch: You Have to Set Them Up Right
The conversation also turned to the tech businesses are actually using day to day, starting with AI.
Adam ran through some practical ways small businesses can put AI to work, pointing to tools like Otter for meeting notes, Murf for voice, and Claude for research and proposals. Used well, they save real time. But there’s a flip side: certain information should never be uploaded to an AI platform, and with staff often using these tools quietly on their own, a written AI policy matters more than most owners realize.
Security cameras came up too, with more practical advice than you might expect: cloud versus local recording and when a DIY setup is good enough versus when it isn’t. The point that ties back to the cybersecurity discussion? Leaving the default password on a camera unchanged can leave the whole system exposed.
The thread running through both is simple. The tools are fine. It’s how they’re set up that decides whether they help you or catch you out.
